3 1/2" Floppy Disk, Zip 100MB, 250MB and Jaz 1GB, 2GB Disk Conversion

These disks are for Windows Based Systems only.

You remember floppy disks, right? You had a drawer full of them. They held a whopping 1.44 Megabytes of data! State of the art! You put all your most important stuff on them. You could now sleep at night knowing that all your data was safe and sound. Whew!

You just bought a new PC or Laptop and guess what?........ They no longer come with floppy drives! Good thing you have all your important data backed up on floppy disks!

OK, all kidding aside, I have had dozens of calls here from customers that have this problem, hundreds of floppy disks they have at home and no way to use or recover data from them.

I can convert your 3 1/2" floppy disks as well as Zip 100 MB, 250 MB Disks and Jaz 1GB, 2GB Disks to CDs/DVDs or even put them on to a flash drive. Just send them to me and I will do the rest.

Once I convert your floppies and/or Zip/Jaz disks I will burn a copy of your data to a CD or DVD.

If you want your data on a flash drive (memory stick), I charge an additional $ 8.00 for the flash drive (memory stick).

If you need this service, just send me an e-mail with the details and I will respond back to you.

Send me an e-mail at phil @ hitanykey.net to let me know what you need.

Disks 16 to 20

Data security - When I convert your floppy disks, the output goes to an external drive. After I copy your files to a CD/DVD or to a flash drive, I format the external drive to remove all traces of your data. I also run a utility that writes strings of ones and zeroes to every record on the external drive, thus eliminating any chance of data recovery. If the customer chooses to have their floppies written directly to a flash drive, there is no need for formatting as the flash drive is shipped directly to the customer.

I initially was converting 3 1/2" floppies for $1.00 per disk, but due to the amount of time it takes to do this, plus the fact that in some cases I have to load some disks in three different floppy drives just to read them, I have raised the price to $4.00 per disk.

To lesson the impact of this higher price, the first 15 disks are $4.00 each, anything over 15 disks is set at $2.00 per disk.

I thought this price was a bit high until I researched the prices other companies are charging and I found out they range from $15.00 up to $25.00 PER DISK!!!

Lately I have noticed that quite a number of 3 1/2" floppy disks that have come in to my lab here are generating the message 'Disk is not formatted, do you wish to format it now?' On these disks I perform a data recovery in order to salvage the files on the disk. I should probably charge for this, but up until this point, I have not.

As far as 5 1/4" floppies are concerned, I have backed off from this service as the failure rate to read them is very high. This may be due to the fact that some of these disks are over 30 years old. If I manage to get some newer 5 1/4" drives in my lab here, I may offer this service once again.
